The Global Trainers Project

A DTP Institute Global Trainer is an experienced and qualified professional dance/movement/fitness educator who trains and works with a community of instructors in their global region. DTP5 Global Trainers train and certify instructors in the 5 areas we have identified as significant transitional episodes in the lives of girls and women via three training programs:

Program A: Puberty/Adolescence – in development
Program B: Pregnancy and Postpartum – operating; training in progress
Program C: Perimenopause/Menopause and Postmenopause – in development

The Global Trainers Steering Committee focuses on program development and updating of an academic Knowledge Base and Practical Skills from evidence-based research findings and established practices that are safe, effective, and community-building for the DTP5 target groups.

Organization of the DTP5 Global Trainers’ project:

A. DTP5 Global Trainers Steering Committee (see members below) – organize and oversee program development, sustain the community of Global Trainers, and provide knowledge, consulting and research opportunities for students, educators, birth workers, and health care professionals interested in the field of dance/movement-based health promotion.

B. DTP5 Global Trainers – train and certify DTP5 instructors, and sustain instructor communities within their global region.

C. DTP5 instructors trained and certified by the Global Trainers – teach movement that is culturally appropriate, safe, effective, and builds support among the DTP5 target communities in their location.

Created under the direction of the DTP5 Global Trainers’ Steering Committee and headed by Ann Cowlin, the training program for Pregnancy and Postpartum Dance and Fitness instructors, as well as consulting for birth workers and medical professionals is currently in practice.

The specific aims of this DTP project is to help reduce rates of maternal and offspring morbidity and mortality by improving health and well-being; reducing anxiety and promoting agency; reducing hypertensive disorders, the need for surgical birth, and difficult recovery.

Persons interested in becoming Dancing Thru Pregnancy® pre/postnatal instructors or sponsoring the program at your facility can find out about this process on the dtp5 Google Workplace here.

Development of the training program for Puberty/Adolescent instructors is in process and headed by committee member Smita Rajan. Development for the Perimenopause/Menopause and Postmenopause program is in process and headed by committee member Inna Sulg Osemwenkhae.
